The secondary school-leaving certificate must be submitted during the registration process at the beginning of the semester.Īn educational learning agreement between prospective students and the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences will be agreed upon before students are enrolled in their respective degree programs. Persons in their last year of school may apply for a study place in a bachelor degree program before taking their secondary school-leaving exams by submitting their most current secondary school grade/marks report. The German University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) entrance qualification certificate is only valid as an admission prerequisite for an Austrian UAS/FH bachelor degree program when combined with an applicable vocational certificate. Moreover, there are degree program specific additional prerequisites as well as more comprehensive information regarding admissions on the individual web pages of the corresponding degree program.

The scheme is administered at the 100 or so vocational education centres in North Rhine-Westphalia, which are run by district-based skilled-trade associations, sectoral groups and chambers of crafts. Industry-wide apprentice training is a valuable tool when it comes to helping apprentices to learn the required skills and proficiencies in every detail.

The reason is that in view of individual order volumes and specialisations, not every potential host employers would be able to cover the full spectrum of apprenticeship rules and regulations. Without the ÜLU scheme, their number would be much more limited.

In NRW alone, some 81000 young people are undergoing training in the skilled trades. Management of the funding structures is the task of the LGH, the commercial operations support centre in Düsseldorf, which is run by North Rhine-Westphalia’s skilled trades sector. The generous number of apprenticeships and the quality of training is largely due to the industry-wide apprentice training scheme, ÜLU. Apprenticeships in the skilled trades enjoy an outstanding international reputation.
